Napoleon Hill came to Mammoth Spring in the late 1890s and fell in love with the area, so much so that he bought the spring itself, the town, and much of the land on both sides of the upper portion of the Spring River. Over the last century, most of the land was sold by the family, either to individuals, or to the State of Arkansas for the state park. Several parcels of land on the river were just too precious to be sold. Five generations later, his descendants Niles Grosvenor IV and Katie Grosvenor Hutcheson still own maybe the most beautiful spot on the whole river. It has never changed ownership in over 100 years, simply passed from one generation to the next. It is pristine and unaltered by any construction.
